Schematics, PCB layouts, firmware, test procedures, mechanical drawings, sourcing information, manufacturing instructions, and product revisions can all contain commercially valuable information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Protecting intellectual property in electronic manufacturing requires more than signing an NDA.<\/strong> OEMs should evaluate the complete manufacturing relationship, including IP ownership, confidentiality, access to engineering information, revision control, traceability, supplier management, prototype handling, and data security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For an electronics product, choosing an ECM or EMS provider is therefore not only a manufacturing decision. It is also an IP-risk decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Intellectual Property Is Exposed During Electronics Manufacturing?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many OEMs think of intellectual property as the PCB design itself.
